The blue part is denim "indigo" and the white part is a "vessel" inspired by hickory. Makiyagama's ``nerikomi'' method involves layering layers of different colored soil to create patterns. Generally, patterns are often painted with glaze, but the nerikomi technique is created by adding color to the clay itself. The good thing about this technique is that the natural texture and flavor of the soil comes out on the surface. However, damage such as cracking often occurs during quenching, and the larger the product, the worse the yield. Each piece is handcrafted by a craftsman, who takes time and effort to imagine the pattern and layer the clay, creating a beautiful expression.
