BONCOURA creates genuine hanging fleece fabrics. Just like denim, we pay special attention to the raw cotton blend and the twist of the thread. The texture, feel, and color of the raw cotton vary depending on the type and place of origin. We combine them to create the ideal fabric. I was very particular about the color and heathered feel, so I started working on samples to create something that was not available anywhere else, but to my surprise, changing just 1% of the color mix resulted in a completely different color. It's only 1%, but it's the most important factor that determines the color and heathered feel, so I couldn't compromise on it. I repeatedly changed the raw cotton mix ratio, made yarn, knitted samples, and went through a process of trial and error until I got the color I was aiming for. What's even more difficult is that even if you make a temporary knit using only the finished yarn, you can get a sense of the color to a certain extent, but if you knit it using a loopwheel, the color of the fleece will also affect the outer fabric, so there are some aspects that you won't know until you actually knit it on the loopwheel. I created the final judgement by trusting my own sensibilities and experience. In order to give the fabric a deeper color, we mixed multiple colors to create that color. People are often surprised that we didn't use any gray to create the gray heathered color, and we also used various techniques at the raw cotton and mixing stages to create a unique heathered look. We use a valuable old-fashioned hanging knitting machine that can only produce about 10 meters of fabric per day, but by taking special steps, we can only produce 7 meters of fabric per day. This amount is equivalent to not even being able to produce four BONCOURA standard parkas in one day. Although it is inefficient, it has a unique texture that cannot be replaced by anything else. From the round nap to the final finish , the raw materials and knitting have a big impact on the texture, but the final finish also has a big impact on the tightening and makes a big difference in the feel. As with the hanging knitting, there are few factories in Japan that can do round nap, and even within Japan, there are only a limited number of skilled craftsmen. Among them, we find reliable factories and ask for their cooperation. BONCOURA's hanging fleece fabric is made without compromise, from the raw materials to the knitting and finishing. This time, it is a solid navy color, so it is an ideal fabric that was spun from scratch with the same raw cotton blend ratio and yarn twist.
