New Material: Horsehide

Horsehide has finer, softer fibers than cowhide. It is smooth and features natural lines and creases that give it a distinctive expression, different from cowhide.

Additionally, certain areas may show fine lines, allowing the leather to uniquely reflect the individuality of each wearer, similar to cowhide.

Tanning

The leather is tanned using tannins extracted from plants, a traditional tanning agent.

While there are many tanning methods, plant tannin tanning allows the leather to age slowly over time, enhancing its character with use and bringing out the inherent qualities of the leather.

Brown Core
There are various ways to achieve a "brown core" finish, including methods where dye penetrates the core.

However, BONCOURA’s horsehide is 100% vegetable-tanned, with a core color that starts as a natural, skin-like hue and develops into a deep amber with time and use.

Different types of plant tannins are available, each affecting the leather's hardness and texture.

After repeated trials and adjustments, BONCOURA has created an original tannin blend tailored to achieve the ideal finish.

The leather is dyed only on the surface, allowing the natural color to remain within.

As the jacket is worn, the outer color gradually fades, and the amber color from within blends with it, creating a unique look.

This aging process, with both the surface fading and the plant tannins reacting to light to deepen the inner color, offers a double-layered aging experience.

Reconstructed for Leather: BONCOURA 1st Model
Based on BONCOURA's 1st model, this jacket has been reconstructed specifically for leather.

The flap on the chest pocket has been removed, incorporating wartime details, and the design has been modified to a five-button front to maintain a beautiful silhouette when closed.

The back features a T-back design.

Metal Parts
All metal parts are BONCOURA originals. The copper rivets develop a unique patina and verdigris over time, adding character with each use.

The front buttons also gain a unique luster as they age, showing more character with every wear.

The back cinch features a BONCOURA custom pin-back design, engraved with the BONCOURA logo. This buckle design is inspired by models from the 1930s, created as an original buckle specifically for this jacket.

Lining
The lining is a custom, thick cupro made specifically for leather jackets. It has a luxurious, smooth feel and was chosen instead of wool, allowing for extended wear across seasons and ensuring the aging process can be enjoyed over a longer period.
