Long Wallet Sashiko black
A long wallet crafted with generous use of sashiko, one of Japan’s traditional textiles.
The body is made from the same type of sashiko fabric used for martial arts uniforms, including those worn in kendo and judo.
Its distinctive, regularly stitched texture creates a pronounced three-dimensional surface while also giving the fabric substantial weight and strength. Unlike a flat woven fabric, sashiko produces a continuous play of fine shadows and depth, bringing a distinctive character to an object that is handled every day.
The black sashiko has a strong, defined appearance when new. With daily handling and repeated friction inside a pocket or bag, subtle changes gradually begin to appear across the raised texture and along the edges of the fabric.
A traditional Japanese textile and a long wallet designed as an everyday tool. BONCOURA brings the two together through its own approach to craftsmanship.
The wallet is fitted with an original BONCOURA zipper.
For this long wallet, the zipper tape has also been newly specified. As a part that is opened and closed repeatedly in daily use, durability was an important consideration, with the entire construction designed for years of use.
As the wallet is used, the metal components gradually develop their own character, creating another form of aging alongside the changing surface of the sashiko.
Natural vegetable-tanned leather is used extensively throughout the interior.
The same leather is used not only for the compartments that hold cards and banknotes, but also for the zipper pull.
With minimal dyeing and surface treatment, the natural vegetable-tanned leather begins with a pale tone and gradually deepens in color and develops a richer luster through contact with the hands, exposure to light, and repeated friction.
