BONCOURA creates genuine hanging fleece fabric
Just like denim, this is a carefully made fishing fleece, with attention paid to the composition of the raw cotton and the twist of the thread. The texture, feel, and color of the raw cotton vary depending on the type and place of origin. We combine these to create the ideal fabric. I was very particular about the color and grain, and started working on samples hoping to create something that wasn't available anywhere else, but to my surprise, changing just 1% of the color mix resulted in a completely different color.
It may only be 1%, but it is the most important factor that determines the color and heathered feel, and we could not compromise on it. We repeatedly changed the raw cotton blend ratio, made yarn, knitted samples, and went through a process of trial and error until we achieved the color we were aiming for.
What's even more difficult is that even if you do a test knitting using only the finished yarn, you can get a general idea of the color, but if you knit using a hanging knitting machine, the color of the fleece will also affect the outer fabric, so you won't know the color until you actually knit it on the hanging knitting machine.
The final judge created the piece by trusting his own sensibilities and experience.
In order to give the fabric depth in color, multiple colors are mixed together to create the color.
People are often surprised at how little grey we use to create the grey mottled colour, and we also use a variety of techniques at the raw cotton and mixing stages to create a unique mottled look.
We use a valuable old-fashioned hanging knitting machine that can only produce about 10 meters of fabric per day, but by taking special care of it, we can only produce 7 meters of fabric per day.
This amount is equivalent to not even being able to produce four BONCOURA standard parkas in one day. Although it is inefficient, it has a unique texture that cannot be replaced by anything else.
From round brushing to final finishing
The raw materials and weaving have a big impact on the texture, but the final finishing also plays a big role and can make a big difference in the feel.
Just like with loopwheel knitting, there are few factories in Japan that can do circular brushing, and even within the country, there are only a limited number of skilled craftsmen. Among them, we search for reliable factories and ask for their cooperation.
BONCOURA's hanging fleece fabric is made without compromise, from the raw materials to the knitting finish, resulting in a rich, wool-like touch and a soft, elastic feel against the skin.
The fabric is used horizontally to prevent vertical shrinkage, while gussets at the sides prevent horizontal shrinkage, while the unique melange feel with depth and exquisite texture combine to create a garment that is soft to the touch.
The hood is designed to stand up properly, and its size allows for a relaxed fit.
The size chart is for unwashed items, and shrinkage may occur after washing.
